Vanya is IST 1947's field-watch collection, one watch per national park and animal, and Kaziranga Gorh — gorh being Assamese for rhinoceros — is its standout. The teal-green fumé dial swaps the 3 and 9 markers for luminous rhino hoof prints, sets the 12 in Assamese script, and the caseback carries an engraved map of Assam with Kaziranga's exact coordinates. It is a genuinely useful tool watch too: 40mm steel, sapphire, Japanese C3 lume, 100m water resistance, a date, and a Miyota 2115 quartz on a black hook-and-loop nylon strap with green stitching. At ₹9,999 it is a rare Indian watch that puts the Northeast, and its script, on the dial.

IST 1947 is named for 1 September 1947, the day independent India set its own clock, and it is built on a complaint most Indian watch buyers will recognise: decades of watches asking us to admire someone else's world — sailing, motorsport, foreign landscapes. Founder Karan Vaidya grew up inside that world; his family has spent three decades importing and distributing international watches in India, and the brand's authorised service centre is Rose The Watch Bär at Mumbai's House of Rose. The debut line-up turns that inheritance inward across three collections: Arka dress watches with a Konark Wheel small seconds and custom Devanagari-inspired numerals, Vanya field watches for Kaziranga, Gir, Ranthambore and Jawai with each state's own script at 12, and Vijay — five limited automatics, 100 pieces each, for India's five cricket World Cup wins, priced at a pointed ₹19,470. Sapphire on every model, individually numbered, and unapologetically Indian by default.
