The Story

“

The face of Mysuru's Dodda Gadiyara, the clock tower raised in 1927 for Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV's silver jubilee — its Kannada numerals set on a linen dial and swept by blued hands, a century after the tower first kept the city's time.

The Dodda Gadiyara was the first watch from Deccan Watches, the house brand of the Bengaluru collector community Time Collectors India, made to mark the 100th year of Mysuru's clock tower. It is deliberately vintage-sized — about 32mm wide and 41mm lug to lug on a 22mm strap — with a two-hand quartz movement, a linen-textured dial carrying the tower's Kannada numerals, blued hands and a square gold-tone case engraved with foliate corners. Just 60 pieces were made, offered only to TCI members, and they sold out before the watch was ever shown publicly; TCI has since asked followers whether they want another edition. It is the watch that proved a collector community could design, fund and sell out its own regional-heritage piece on word of mouth alone.

About the maker

Deccan Watches (DeW & Co.)

Founded 2026 · Bengaluru · Time Collectors India (TCI) collective

Deccan Watches — signed DeW & Co. on the dial — is the house brand of Time Collectors India, the Bengaluru-based collector community, and it may be the clearest case yet of Indian enthusiasts deciding to build the watches they couldn't buy. Its brief is the Deccan's overlooked stories and materials rather than the popular narratives. The first project, the Dodda Gadiyara, marked the centenary of Mysuru's clock tower with Kannada numerals in a gold-toned engraved case: a run of 60 pieces that sold out to TCI members before it was ever shown publicly. The second, the Golkonda Tiger Ferrum, sets a natural tiger iron stone dial — tiger's eye, jasper and hematite — in a 35.5mm cushion case, a nod to the Golkonda mines that once supplied the world's royal treasuries. It sold out its first drop within days. Small batches, community-first, and no two stone dials alike.
